Skincare basics and seasonal care advice

Routine Step Guide

The essential K-Beauty skincare steps, in order

Start with a gentle cleanser to remove impurities, excess oil, and makeup. Use lukewarm water — hot water can strip your skin barrier.

  • AM: A gentle rinse or milk cleanser is enough
  • PM: Double cleanse if wearing makeup or sunscreen
  • Don't over-cleanse — twice a day is plenty

Skincare Basics

What is the skin barrier?

The outermost layer of skin that prevents moisture loss and protects against irritants. Over-cleansing, harsh actives, and dry environments can damage it. Ceramides, panthenol, and hyaluronic acid help restore the barrier.

Photoaging & UV rays

About 80% of skin aging is caused by UV rays. UVA penetrates deep, causing aging; UVB affects the surface, causing burns. SPF measures UVB protection; PA rates UVA protection. Check both.

Patch testing

Before using a new product, apply a small amount on your inner arm and check after 24 hours. If there's no redness, itching, or hives, it's generally safe for your face.

Seasonal Skincare

Spring

  • Switch from heavy creams to lighter textures as weather warms
  • Antioxidant serums (Vitamin C) help fight seasonal allergies and pollution
  • Start sunscreen reapplication — UV rays get stronger

Summer

  • Gel-type moisturizers keep skin hydrated without feeling heavy
  • Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours — consider a mist or cushion type
  • Use calming ingredients (centella, aloe) to soothe sun-exposed skin

Fall

  • Transition to richer textures as air gets drier
  • Add a hydrating toner or essence to boost moisture
  • Exfoliate 1-2 times a week to remove summer buildup

Winter

  • Layer on the hydration — toner, essence, serum, then a rich cream
  • Don't skip sunscreen — UV rays are present year-round
  • Use a humidifier at night to prevent moisture loss
